UK bare-board PCB manufacturers offering fabrication from raw materials to finished, unpopulated circuit boards.
UK PCB fabrication companies manufacture the bare board itself: the substrate, copper traces and plated holes that get populated with components in a separate process afterward. This is a genuinely different business from PCB assembly. A fabricator builds boards from raw laminate, copper foil and chemistry; an assembler solders components onto a board someone else, or the same company's own fabrication line, already made.
Board specification is where the real differences show up: layer count (from simple two-layer boards through to 40-plus-layer complex builds), board material (standard FR-4 versus higher-performance materials like PTFE or polyimide for flex and high-frequency applications), and surface finish (HASL, ENIG, immersion silver among others) all shape which fabricator actually fits your board, not who's nearest or who quotes lowest.
Many UK fabricators also offer assembly, and where that's the case, it's captured alongside their fabrication listing here. Others are dedicated bare-board specialists with no assembly capability at all, worth knowing before you get in touch expecting a populated board back. Our certification and capability checklist sets out what to ask before you shortlist.

What's the difference between PCB fabrication and PCB assembly?
Fabrication is manufacturing the bare board itself: the substrate with copper traces and plated holes. Assembly is populating that finished board with components. Some UK companies do both; many specialise in one or the other.
What board specifications should I check before choosing a fabricator?
Layer count, board material (FR-4 is standard; PTFE, polyimide and ceramic suit specific high-frequency, flexible or high-temperature applications), and surface finish are the details that actually determine fit, alongside minimum order quantity and turnaround time for your specific layer count and material.
Do I need a separate assembler if I use a dedicated fabricator?
Yes, unless the fabricator also offers assembly, which some do. A pure fabricator supplies bare boards only; you'll need to arrange assembly separately, either with the same company if they offer it or a separate EMS partner.
